We went deep into the Mystery Ranch archives and found one of their most iconic pieces of all time; the Beams Day Assault pack. From there, we re-imagined and refined it into a thing of absolute perfection.
At 24 liters, we find it’s the perfect balance between an everyday carry bag and a bomb-proof hauler for adventures.

From combat to covert
The original pack that inspired this unicorn was covered in camo. As Mystery Ranch is known for their military packs, this is absolutely fitting. Though we actually are fans of camo patterns, we wanted something more subdued for the city streets and for travel. Something more versatile.
Keeping the contrast, stealth-style
We opted for a two-tone black aesthetic, black 500D Cordura nylon and then adding in black Dimension Polyant X-Pac fabric. The two fabrics have a nice visual contrast just like the original while still harmoniously balanced. Ultimately, now the pack can discreetly travel anywhere with you.
Weather the storm
Since we’re sure some of you will be taking the Carryology Assault into less than ideal environments, we wanted to make sure your gear is protected from the elements. We opted for YKK AquaGuard zippers for all the exterior zippers and built the main body from waterproof X-Pac fabric, giving you the upper hand against the storm.
Elite comfort
If you’re anything like us, your load varies from a light 3-5 lbs of EDC gear, to 15 lbs of adventure gear for an impromptu hike, or even up to 25 lbs of heavy camera gear. So this had to be comfortable and adaptable for all scenarios. We went with a super comfortable hybrid suspension system consisting of Mystery Ranch’s legendary adjustable Futura harness, along with a padded hipbelt that completely disappears and folds away that includes an aircraft-grade aluminum Alutica tilt-head buckle from Trimmers. When weighted down, it feels like the pack was built around your body.
Organize and conquer
While many of us are big fans of “inception packing” with cubes and pouches, our biggest issue with most of the existing 3-Zip style packs is the lack of small items organization. So working closely with D3 on the patterning, we added all the pocketry you could possibly use, without going overkill. This pack includes the Deep Dish top pocket with mesh divider pocket, internal pockets up top, lots of small organization in the two iconic arc pockets (which also double as water bottle pockets), with a floating padded laptop sleeve in the back outfitted with MOLLE webbing for you to attach additional accessories.
Morale booster
And lastly, we wanted that little extra frosting on this stealthy cake. Working with Carryology co-founder and crazy talented illustrator Hadrien Monloup, we designed a morale patch to be included with this unobtanium grail unicorn. It would be a knight, riding atop his mighty unicorn steed, holding a grail up to the sky, with a shield made from the rare fictional material of unobtanium. Every single Carryology Assault will ship with its very own patch, included.
