Is this the Best Ethically Made, Eco-friendly Backpack?
Thread is a company dedicated to doing good, both for people and the planet. How? By making recycled fabrics that not only reduce landfill waste but create jobs too. A variety of brands have integrated the Certified B Corp’s fabrics into their products, from Timberland to Reebok and Marmot. But Thread figured, why not create a product themselves? Something that people could use every day, offering high quality and functionality, while putting recycled materials front and center. And they’ve done it. Meet the Better Backpack.
From waste to waxed canvas
The Better Backpack is made with 100% recycled canvas and leather detailing. Around 25 plastic bottles are used to make each pack, with the fabric created through a traceable and transparent supply chain. The waxed canvas features a water-resistant C6 DWR finish and comes in three colorways including Grey, Black and Brown. The waxed canvas looks and feels good while keeping waste out of landfills. A win-win all round.
Night to day, work to play
Thread have designed the bag as a stylish, versatile piece you can take anywhere and wear with anything. The smart aesthetics suit formal work environments and nights out equally well. And the adaptable design is just as adept at handling office tools as it is gym supplies or travel essentials. Added bonus? You won’t find any dangling straps getting in the way and detracting from the smart style.
In addition to the ergonomic padded shoulder straps, the backpack can also be carried using the top and side carry handles. And if you’re traveling with rolling luggage, the luggage pass-through sleeve lets you easily secure the pack to your luggage for convenient transport.
Organization that’s on point
Some packs offer too little organization, making you rummage for items that have slipped to the bottom of the bag. But other packs can go too far in the opposite direction, cramming in more pockets and organization options than you’ll actually use. And cluttering up your pack in the process. The Better Backpack finds that sweet spot, with well-considered organization that keeps items accessible while still maintaining a clean style.
The backpack comes in 17L and 20L options. Both options include top, front and side pockets to keep frequently used items secure but within easy reach when you need them.
A separate padded laptop compartment stores your tech safely, with the 17L pack fitting a 14″ laptop and the 20L pack suitable for up to a 15″ device.
The bag also has a full-height chimney pocket that’s padded and water repellent. Perfect for a wine bottle, water bottle, umbrella or other similarly shaped items. The functional organization extends inside too, with an interior key hook, pockets and webbing loops for smaller items.
A pint-sized partner to corral smaller carry
While the pack’s organization will keep smaller items in check, sometimes it’s useful to have additional assistance on hand. The Cord Pouch is made with the same recycled material as the pack, and is designed to keep small essentials tidy and easily portable. An all-in-one storage solution that you can transfer easily in and out of your pack and between other bags. Or use it as a standalone pouch when you don’t need to carry a lot.
Available exclusively with the 17L and 20L backpack campaign rewards, the pouch is sewn in Pittsburgh and provides an interior pocket and loops to organize cables, chargers and other small EDC, work or travel items.
A better way to carry
The Thread Better Backpack is a bag you can reach for throughout the day, from work to the weekend. Adaptable, attractive and practical to easily keep up with changing needs. And with its focus on ethical, eco-friendly production, you’re not only getting a great bag but helping spread a little good yourself. The Better Backpack Kickstarter campaign, which has already smashed its funding goal, runs until 19 September 2018. So there’s plenty of time left to pick up a pack and enjoy a better way to carry.
