5 Minutes with Ucon Acrobatics

Ucon Acrobatics is a Berlin-based lifestyle brand that was founded in 2001 by Jochen Smuda and Martin Fussenegger. The brand has gone from strength to strength while embracing the values of creativity, innovation, quality and ethical production. We recently caught up with Ucon Acrobatics to chat design insights, who inspires them in the carry world, as well as new creations to look out for…

What key insights drive your stuff?

We’ve been in the market for 13 years now. I think experience is always very important for making great products. You need to find the right people to work with, above all on the production side. It is always important to find partners who understand your thoughts and ideas.

Who else is doing rad things in the world of carry and why do you think they’re important? 

There are really a lot of great brands out there, to name one of my favorites I would pick T-Level. They have a great quality product for a reasonable price, and the guys behind the brand are super nice. That is also why we are working on a collaboration with them right now.

Are there any things other brands do that you think are great or could be improved?

Of course there are a lot of other great brands out there. We also get good inspiration from other brands, and then try to improve it as much as possible in the Ucon Acrobatics style. I think that is what it is all about. Improve your products from season to season.

What’s next for you guys?

We’ve just released the new collection and we had a great launch event for the new artist collaboration with Haw-lin. We are working more and more on great collaborations like this. Also we just finished a nice bag collaboration with our friends from Gestalten Verlag. This one will drop very soon in about 2-3 weeks.

What do you carry daily and how?

I personally carry all my things needed for the office. So in general laptop, wallet, key, something to eat, magazines, etc. Just because I live right next to our office I use our Veit bag. It is a simple bag, but timeless in design and great quality.
