6 July Week in Review: Sleek Filson, EDC Keychains, and Mobile Power

This Week In Review is packed with carry goodness to suit all tastes and styles, from sweet-looking carry candy to mobile electricity generation and Filson in sleek stealth mode…

Tasteful carry candy to pounce on

J. Panther Luggage Co. RollTote

Taking inspiration from backpacks provided to U.S. servicemen during the 1960s and 1970s, J. Panther Luggage Co. has rolled out their latest offering in the form of the RollTote where backpack meets tote, Horween leather meets 21oz waxed canvas and work-friendly style meets casual carry for your downtime. The RollTote can be carried in three ways, either as a backpack, tote or hand carry via the side handle, while the water-resistant canvas comes in a choice of black, sand and olive. Two exterior pockets offer external organization options and an interior pocket keeps the likes of documents, a tablet or a laptop separate from the rest of the main compartment.

I’ll have it in any colour…as long as it’s black

Filson Black Collection

What’s better than a Filson bag? A Filson bag in black, you say? Well then you’re in luck, as Filson is back in black with their new Black Collection. The brand has applied the colorway to a selection of their most popular pieces including totes, duffles, messengers, packs and briefcases. The understated colorway gives the pieces greater versatility for transitioning from work to leisure environments and there’s no denying it works well for promoting Filson’s rugged sleek vibe. Plus if you’re digging the black but keen for a different look and feel, Filson’s new vinyl-coated Dry Duffle may catch your fancy for your next wet adventure.

A workstation wherever you are

La Fonction no. 1.2 mobile workstation

If you like a little privacy in public spaces while you work on your laptop, the La Fonction no. 1.2 is designed to be your all-in-one carry and workstation companion. Suitable for 13″ laptops, the La Fonction no. 1.2 resembles a compact folio bag which can be unzipped and extended outwards to form a workstation. The sides of the workstation help to reduce reflections on the screen, provide privacy while you work and help you to focus on the laptop rather than your surroundings. A variety of small items such as phones, notepads and thin wallets can be stored in the workstation’s pockets as well.

Key addition to an arsenal of tough EDC

HANDGREY™ Series Quick-Release Titanium Carabiner Keychain

The efficiency and versatility of a carabiner and keychain combo constructed out of tough titanium with aesthetics that just make you want to reach out and handle it – all on offer in the HANDGREY™ SERIES Titanium Keychain Carabiner which is designed according to Bauhaus and Shibumi design principles, essentially a combination of minimalist functionality and understated elegance. Simply put, the keychain carabiner will get the job done and look good doing it. The HANDGREY Kickstarter campaign has already achieved almost ten times its funding goal but if you’re keen to add to your EDC there’s still time to hook one for yourself.

Power up by powering onwards

You’re stuck in the wilderness at night, phone dead, no chance to charge it with solar panels and you’re completely lost. What do you do? The GO KIN is a device which is designed to be carried in a pack or hip bag and that gives power on the go through the simple act of walking. Two cords from the device are attached to your shoes (or ankles via a strap) and as you walk and pull the cords, power is generated. This power can be used to charge a variety of electronic devices such as phones, tablets and cameras via USB ports. The project creators claim that walking at a pace of 1.5 meters per second for 5 minutes can generate enough power for up to 25 minutes of talk time on your phone. The device is fairly heavy at 1.2 kilograms and there’s the potential for the cords to snag on vegetation while you’re exploring outdoors but in a pinch it can give your electronics the power they need and can lend itself to a variety of use environments.
