Creating a Frame Bag for your Bike

Following on from the ‘create your own pannier‘ post we dropped a while a back, we got tipped off about a post that Rob from Ventura, CA slice together on how to create a frame bag for your bag. It’s pretty impressive and something we had to share with you.

Obviously the bike you ride will dictate the measurements/specs of the frame bag you make. Rob has the following has his specs:

Bag Specifications: Frame bag with No.8 Canvas duck side panels, Jr Ballistic perimeter strip for abrasion resistance, multi point reinforced hook and loop connections, waterproof zipper with double pull and storm flap.  Port for rear tail light battery wire.

Dimensions: 22? long x 6? high x 2? wide (56cm x 15cm x 5cm)

Volume: 264 in³ (4.333 L)

An idea like this really opens up a lot of options to what you can carry on your bike. If you, like Rob, include a front and back pannier along with the frame bag you will be creating a lot of extra space on your bike. With the benefit being a still streamlined overall shape for the rider making it easier to navigate thru any obstacles, etc.

If you get the chance to take a good look at the images and read Rob’s post about it, you will notice the extra length of detail Rob has put into. Down the wiring for his tail light, the velcro attachment to the frame – allowing you to remove the bag when not in use, etc.

An extra bonus? If your really keen to get one but perhaps don’t have the skills, Rob is open to the idea of creating one for you.
